MEFL INSURANCE

MEFL INSURANCE, a division of MEFLBANK

Hold on to your butts… For the 2024 season the MEFL is proud to inaugurate MEFL INSURANCE, funded and managed by MEFLBANK.

What Is it?

MEFL INSURANCE provides team owners the ability to use their FA budgets to purchase insurance polices on starting players to maximize their competitive edge with their entire team roster. Yes, that means your bench players can be called upon to substitute for your starters based on the policies purchased. MEFL INSURANCE also provides owners with an opportunity to invest and grow their FA Budgets week to week.

How does it work?

Teams start with a FA budget of $200, plus any dollars leftover from their draft budget.

Owners purchase policies week to week. There are two insurance policy options:

Option #1: $5 Standard Policy - protect 1 specific player on your starting roster for one week. The player has to be healthy up to gameday.

On gameday if he doesn’t finish the game due to injury - you can swap in someone from your bench.

Option #2: $10 Premium Policy - designate a player on your starting roster the policy is for, and you can sub-in a replacement after the game if you’re unhappy with his performance, regardless of the reason.

The policies must be purchased before the Thursday game begins and only bench players on your squad at the time of purchase can be used to substitute. A team cannot pickup a player after Thursday and use them as a substitute for a Sunday game, for example.

The subs can be chosen after the game is over. You can protect as many players as you want each week. Only players on your bench can be used as subs. Remember, there are only 2 bench spots on your roster.

Where do I purchase?

To purchase a policy, simply post the request on the MEFL GroupMe chat for all to see. Here’s an example post:

“GG buys a $5 policy on Josh Allen and a $10 policy on Larry Fitzgerald”

  • In this scenario, if Josh Allen gets hurt and doesn’t finish the game, GG could choose to substitute his bench QB. And if Larry Fitzgerald is outscored by another player from the bench (WR or FLEX, depending on Larry’s roster spot) GG can choose to substitute the higher scoring player for Fitzgerald.

How are the matchups adjusted?

Yahoo! does not allow Commissioners to change the roster after the game, but does allow them to adjust the overall points. Therefore either the commissioner or the MEFL INSURANCE Adjuster will modify the points accordingly on Tuesday.

  • The MEFL INSURANCE Adjuster for 2024 is GG.

You said something about Investing?

Yes, another feature of MEFL INSURANCE will be for you to “invest” (it’s more like a “bet”) on starting players on other teams, hoping they will get hurt. We call this option: MEFLBANK Credit Default Swaps.

Here’s how it works:

  • You can purchase a policy on another team’s starting player for $5. Multiple team owners can purchase policies on the same player.

  • If the player doesn’t finish the game due to injury - you get paid $10 and the player’s owner gets $5. The payouts come from MEFLBANK, the hosting entity of MEFLOPOLY.

Why Invest?

  • Purchasing credit default swaps on players gives you an opportunity to grow your FA budget week to week. There is no limit on how many players you can purchase a credit default swap for.

To purchase a credit default swap, simply post the request on the MEFL GroupMe chat for all to see. Here’s an example post:

“Wookiees will purchase a CDS policy on Josh Allen.”

  • In this scenario, Josh Allen must be a starting player on another team. Regardless of what happens, the Wookiees pay out $5. If Allen doesn’t finish the game due to injury only, the Wookiees will get a bonus of $10 and Allen’s owner will get a bonus of $5.

Conclusion

The MEFL is proud to bring you this new addition to league competition. Finally, your bench players can be used they way they were meant to be used! And you might make a little coin on the side as well.

We hope you’ll enjoy MEFL INSURANCE! Don’t take the risk - buy your next policy today!
